a2 CLUB
Alila Hotel, Jl. Pecenogan 7-17, Kota

Cool minimalist club set on the southern edge of Kota in the basement of the Alila Hotel. Frequently hosts wicked fashion shows for both the boys and girls. Rarely packed but has solid switched-on middle-class local following. Only open Thursday through Saturday, great food at the Buzz Café in the hotel upstairs.

AVENUE
Pan-Pacific Hotel, Jl. Thamrin No. 6, Central Jakarta

In front of the Sari Pacific at the former location of “Pit-Stop”. If you love classic 80's disco, then this is the club for you, although they also feature modern house and RnB. Swank middle-aged up-market Chinese/Pre-Bumi Indonesian crowd, virtually zero sleaze factor.

CENTRO
Dharmawangsa Square , Jl. Dharmawangsa, Kemang

Jakarta 's newest club. It's the only major disco in South Jakarta , and the only club committed to featuring international DJ talent nearly every weekend. Its a bunker-like underground set-up with a great sound system and an up-market local and growing expat crew. The club is just starting to make big waves on the Jakarta scene.

EMBASSY
Taman Ria, East Bldg. 704, Senayan

Trendy progressive music nightclub, very popular with Jakarta 's top socialites and celebrities. Has three rooms: the intimate basement CO2 for pumped-up committed tribal clubbers; the 2-story Main Room with lower dance floor and upper-floor full of reserved alcoves for chattering luminaries; and the unfortunately rarely open Oxygen rooftop bar that has a surreal backdrop of Jakarta and a huge Ferris Wheel. Busiest from 11pm to 4am.

THE GATE
Wisma GKB1, Jl. Jend. Sudirman, Kav.28, Semanggi

Relatively new club/disco/restaurant with hard-to-find entrance behind the GKB-1 Building at the Semanggi overpass. It's a gothic-themed underground set-up with macabre murals, a great international restaurant, early evening mellow jazz-rock live music, and a dungeon-like progressive house disco that fires-up after midnight .

GRAND MANHATTAN
Hotel Borobudur, East Wing, Jl. Lapangan Banteng Selatan

The Mercedes-class “happy hard house” club located at the other end of the Borobudur Hotel. A large dark club with devoted following of up-market and more mature local clubbers, plus a few westerners and some eager to please ladies.

JALAN-JALAN
Menara Imperium Kav. 1, 36th Floor, Jl. Rasuna Said, Kuningan

Interesting skyscraper-top venue with a lower-floor house music disco and an upper-floor live music room featuring top 40's and local pop from various Indonesian outfits. Has a very devoted but sort of cliquey up-market Chinese Indonesian crowd.

JJ DUIT
Jl. Tanah Abang Timur, No.18, Central Jakarta

The Tanamur's sister-club next door – features 2 floors, an outdoor party garden, pool tables, pretty good food; plus plenty of smiling long-legged hussies. A popular hot spot for expats and foreign travelers.

LINTAS MELAWAI
Jl. Melawai, next door to Hotel Melawai, Block M

The infamous Pak Karno, the K-Bar and the Tambora Hotel may be long gone, but their spirit lives on at the Lintas Melawai – the final depository of all the drunken westerners and wayward girls left wandering around Block M from 2am to 5am .

MATABAR
Wisma Metropolitan II, 16th Floor, Jl. Sudirman Kav 31, Semanggi

A highflying skyscraper bar with a spectacular view of Jakarta and some pretty good RnB and hip-hop music spun by local DJs. Hugely popular with middle to upper class college-age Indonesians who want nothing more than to drink, dance and just have a good time.

MILLENNIUM
Plaza Gajah Mada, Jl. Gajah Mada No. 19-26, Kota

Jakarta 's largest one-room disco and the premier “happy hard house” music venue. It also boasts the city's largest and loudest sound-system, a massive dance hall and anywhere from 1000-3000 head-shaking hard house fans virtually every night of the week. Worth checking out just for the sensory overload. Don't forget your earplugs!

MONACO CLUB
Gran Mahakam Jl. Mahahkam 1 No. 6 Jakarta

Stylish venue just opened in January and is already making a big impression on the night scene. The first level with its large comfy sofas is more a place to chill out with friends or do some romancing, while the lower level houses the DJ's, which packs them in on weekends both dancing and socializing. Crowd is mainly up-market Indonesian's with a good mixture of westerners.

MUSRO
Hotel Borobudur, West Wing, Jl. Lapangan Banteng Selatan

Smaller 1-room, 2-story club with a great up-market mixture of locals and expats and quality progressive house/trance. The Musro scene sort of fits right in the middle between Stadium and Embassy – not as crazy as the former, but less trendy than the latter. At Musro, it's all about the music! Best from 12pm to 4am .

RETRO
Crown Plaza Hotel, Jl. Gatot Subroto Kav. 2-3, Semanggi

One of the most popular Central Jakarta dance-spots, prime time's around 1am to 4am, after all the nearby hotel live music bars shut down. One of the most diverse and fun crowds in town with a great balance of westerners, locals and some naughty bits as well.

STADIUM
Jl. Hayam Wuruk No. 111, Kota

Jakarta 's premier progressive/tribal venue for hardcore clubbers. Hosts three floors of DJs on weekends, plus massage parlors, private karaoke rooms, two live music cabarets, gaming room and not-so-hot restaurant. Open non-stop from Friday until 10am Monday, it is Jakarta 's only 24-hour club.

TANAMUR
Jl. Tanah Abang Timur, No.14, Central Jakarta

The great grand-lady of Jakarta discotheques that's been continually reinventing herself since 1970. Recent indications are that the lady has finally been tamed but she still occasionally fires on weekends with wicked catwalk-prancing dancers, a great male to female ratio - and a great male to male ratio for the more cheerfully inclined.

1001 CLUB
Hayam Wuruk Plaza , 4th Floor, Jl. Hayam Wuruk No. 108, Kota

In the building right next door to Stadium, its a high-class pleasure palace with a “happy hard house” disco, snazzy 24-hour restaurant, plus a massive multi-floored executive club stocked full of beautiful and hotly-dressed multi-national escorts (including a few Russians).
