Hotel Shangri-La, Jl. Su-dirman Kav. 1, Central Jakarta
The name's got nothing to do with vampires - it simply stands for Bar At The Shangri-La. Expensive long flagons of beer, a pretty tasty adjoining continental restaurant, adequate dance floor and upstairs pool room. A great fun club with top international bands, this basement bar is one of Jakarta 's most popular expat nightspots.
BURGUNDY
Hotel Grand Hyatt, Jl. Thamrin, Kav. 28-30, Central Jakarta
A super classy wine and cigar bar featuring cool jazz amongst a lot of glass and minimalist surroundings. The crowd's an even mix of mature westerners and Indonesians who enjoy the finer things in life.
CJ's
Hotel Mulia, Jl. Asia Afrika, Senayan
Super popular club with a room-length stage. Usually host fusion hip-hop/rap/RnB outfits that work a lot of entertaining dance moves into their performance. A far more Indonesian crowd than BATS or the Tiga Puluh, and less well-lit as well. Gets so packed on weekends that its hard to get a drink.
THE TAVERN
Hotel Hyatt Aryaduta, Jl. Prapatan 44-48
Formerly one of Jakarta 's major players in the 80's and early 90's the Tavern has mellowed into a more laid-back fun-pub still catering to westerners especially Germans. Top 40's and pop from Monday through Sunday. Still serves fantastic hot rock steaks.
TIGA PULUH BAR
Hotel Le Meridien, Jl. Jend Sudirman Kav. 18-20, Central Jakarta
(Tiga Pulu means 30 in Indonesian). One of Jakarta 's top mid-evening spots with a central stage, featuring top International acts, surrounded by U-shaped bar. No real dance floor, everyone just boogies where they stand, which translates into lots of leggy females prancing on top of the bar as well. Open 5pm until 1 or 2am , depending on the crowd.
UNTITLED BAR
Hotel M.S. Marriott, Jl. Lingkar Mega Kuningan
Quieter and more relaxed live music venue which is exactly the reason why its becoming more popular amongst Jakarta 's resident expats. A really diverse crowd.
